GTL in a Nutshell

What is GTL initiative about?

Support of green start-ups in Greece, Spain, Slovakia through a European Network of experts and investors and local, mobile and virtual support structures

Micro and small enterprises generate a lion’s share of new jobs in Europe.

Especially the green economy offers a lot opportunities and makes up a growing portion of new enterprises. The EU Commission focuses the macroeconomic coordination to implement the United Nation’s sustainable development goals and offers a lot of support structures for green start-ups. This is a key aspect of the New Green Deal.

The figure below illustrates the various elements of the Green Deal and the scope in which creative project ideas for sustainable business ideas can be developed.

However, start-ups often struggle with specific challenges in the different phases of their development. Incubators, accelerators and other support organizations play a key role in connecting green entrepreneurs with vital resources, to help them get started, grow and sustain their businesses.

To help unleash the untapped potential for growth and social inclusion that lies in green entrepreneurship, the GTL initiative accompanies existing incubators, accelerators and other support organizations in the development of new or adapted products or services to green entrepreneurs and it generates new structures in 4 European regions. The initiative offers local and regional support services (local and mobile GTL) and an international web network of organisations, institutions and experts (virtual GTL). GTL inspires you to recognise the potential of the green economy, motivates to take the adventure of founding a start-up. GTL offers you broad network of stakeholders, experts and other green start-ups who are able to support the implementation of your idea. You can count on exciting events on the green start-up scene and many interesting training sessions and materials that introduce you to the most important basics of setting up a business. Mentors accompany you from the beginning of your journey and help you realise your idea adapted to their needs and your different stages of your start-up.

The GTL initiative is implemented in Greece, Spain and Slovakia and it is funded by the European Climate Initiative (EUKI) during the first three years.
