Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Comarca de La Janda
The mancomunidad includes 7 towns of the province with 80.000 inhabitants.
The Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Comarca de la Janda was created in 1995, as a result of the will of all the municipalities that make up the association to join forces to offer more and better services to their citizens, as well as to provide an additional instrument to promote the social, economic and cultural development of the towns of La Janda. Aware of the difficult times that the institutions and the population in general are going through, we are determined to maintain this commitment to public service to our fellow citizens of the region, promoting from here the coordination with other provincial and regional administrations and the Spanish Government, to attract resources and aid that contribute to the progress of the Janda region and to the improvement of the quality of life of its inhabitants.
Ecologistas en Acción
Ecologistas en Acción is a confederation of more than 300 environmental groups in towns and cities. It is part of the so-called social ecologism, which understands that environmental problems have their origin in an increasingly globalised model of production and consumption, from which other social problems also derive, and which must be transformed if the ecological crisis is to be avoided. To this end, it carries out awareness-raising campaigns, public or legal complaints against those actions that damage the environment, while at the same time developing concrete and viable alternatives in each of the areas in which it operates.
In several digital conferences, together with guest speakers and participants, we have worked out 5 sectors that seem to offer promising prospects for founding a company, cooperative or project in the green economy:
In a second step we have defined them into more concrete proposals on how to start activities in the green economy.Several participants have started to elaborate a project that they plan to present in competitions planned in GTL.
Would you like to learn more about the approaches and structures that await you in your regional GTL? Find out here how we work and how it fits with your sustainable business idea.
La Janda is a formerly predominantly rural region with a strong out-migration due to the endemic unemployment in the villages. The current economy depends mainly on the construction sector, some weak industrial centers (Bay of Cadiz, Algeciras) and tourism.
Working conditions are extremely precarious, and unemployment in Spain is on a “record high.” Young people are the most affected by unemployment and precarity.
The environment is vulnerable and threatened by the climate crisis and its consequences, intensive and exploitative agriculture, and extensive and uncontrolled urbanization. On the other hand, the landscape offers great opportunities for green energy, for action against environmental degradation, and for adaptation to inevitable climate change. And the future of tourism depends on it embarking on more sustainable paths.
